BALTIC EXPERIENCES

DAY 1 VILNIUS Arrival to Lithuanian capital Vilnius. Private transfer to the hotel. Welcome dinner and Lithuanian beer degustation, during which you will meet your group members. Overnight in Vilnius. 

 

DAY 2 VILNIUS – TRAKAI – VILNIUS Breakfast at the hotel. Morning city tour of charming Vilnius Old town and surroundings. Cathedral and it’s square, St. John’s Bell Tower promising amazing panoramic view, Pilies street with 16-18 century historical and architectural monuments, Gothic corner ( St Ann’s Church), former Town Hall square, miraculous Gates of Dawn, bohemian Uzupis district and one of the most impressive churches in the world – baroque St. Peter and Paul church. Afterwards driver to the capital of Grand Duchy of Lithuania – Trakai, located 25 km from Vilnius. Visit insular castle of 15th century, enjoy sail in beautiful Galve lake and learn about Karaites, ethnic minority brought from Crimea in 14th century. Return to Vilnius. Overnight.

 

DAY 3 VILNIUS – VILKIJA – PANEMUNE CASTLE -ZYPLIAI – KLAIPEDA Breakfast at the hotel. Day to explore rural Lithuania. First stop at Vilkija town, which marks the start of one of the most picturesque roads of the country – Panemune Castle road. It runs along the biggest Lithuanian river Nemunas and is surrounded by mounds and lovely villages. In Vilkija you will have a chance to see a treasurer of local folk art – Antanas & Jonas Juskos ethnographic museum. Established in the oldest building of Vilkija region, former parish, dating  beginning of 18th century, it is run by woodcarver, artist A.Snieckus, his wife and presents local lifestyle, crafts in a very simple and authentic way. Afterwards continue to Renaissance era Panemune Castle. Enjoy impressive exterior and have a short tour inside, where nowadays art gallery is located. Time to please not only your soul, but also body. Drive to Zypliai manor, where restaurant “Kuchmistrai” is located. You will be introduced to Lithuanian noble cuisine ( snacks, main dish, dessert and several local drinks). Afterwards continue to the only seaport of the country - Klaipeda. Overnight. 

 

DAY 4 KLAIPEDA – CURONIAN SPIT – KLAIPEDA Breakfast at the hotel. You will take a ferry and travel to Curonian Spit – the pearl of Lithuania. In Juodkrante you will climb an authentic Hill of Witches,  decorated with numerous wooden sculptures based on Lithuanian legends and folk tales. In Nida you will see majestic continental sand dunes, unique wooden architecture, neo-gothic church and old ethnographic cemetery. When back to Klaipeda, learn about the town, which once was the capital of Prussia Kindgdom. Feel german spirit in the streets of the Old town, pass by the Theatre square with famous scupture of Ann from Tharau. Upon possibility visit amber shop and see how amber is being processed. Overnight in Klaipeda.

 

DAY 5 KLAIPEDA – HILL OF CROSSES – RUNDALE PALACE – RIGA Breakfast at the hotel. Morning departure to Latvia’s capital Riga. En route stop to visit the holy site of Catholic Piligrimage – The Hill of Crosses. This is an expression of a spontaneous religiousness of the people and is a symbol not of grief and death, but of Faith, Love ans Sacrifice. From here the Pope blessed people of Lithuania and Christian Europe. Next stop - Rundale Palace – one of the most outstanding monuments of Baroque and Rococo styles in the Baltics. Afternoon arrival to Riga. Accommodation and free time. Overnight.

 

DAY 6 RIGA Breakfast at the hotel. Morning city tour of the ancient Hanseatic city. While strolling through the cobble-stone, picturesque streets of the Old Town, pass by Dome Cathedral, St. Peter church, House of Blackheads, the Cat House, Old City Walls. Visit Art Nouveau district. Riga is one of the largest centres of Art Nouveau, with more than a third of the buildings of its Central District built in the style. Last but not least – Latvian Black Balsam tasting! The dark and astringent liqueur made of 24 herbs remains unchanged for 250 years and is famous national brand name. Overnight.

 

DAY 7 RIGA – TURAIDA – PARNU – TALLINN Breakfast at the hotel. Morning departure to Estonia. En route stop at medieval Turaida Castle. Later continue to Pärnu. It is a historical beautiful resort, seaside city with a small harbour in the South-Western part of Estonia. White sandy beaches, shallow waters, rich cultural scene and numerous cafés, restaurants there is plenty to see and do. Afternoon arrival to Tallinn. Overnight.

 

DAY 8 TALLINN Breakfast at the hotel. City tour of Tallinn features the most outstanding sights including  14th-15th century Gothic Town Hall, St. Nicholas church, now housing a museum of medieval art; St. Catherine‘s passages, an old chemist’s shop; numerous authentic Hanseatic merchants’ houses. Dive underground and walk through the Bastion tunnels – it‘s a fascinating way to learn about the history of Tallin. Last, but not least – Kalev Marzipan Museum Room, located in the the oldest continuously running cafe in Tallinn and probably Estonia. It‘s ground floor interior remained almost unchanged for more than 100 years. The Marzipan room gives a good overview about the history of marzipan – how it was produced at pharmacies in the Middle Ages and how it later became known as a popular sweet. At the exhibition there are almost 200 marzipan figures, which have been produced with molds that are over a hundred years old. Free aftternoon. Overnight.

 

DAY 9 TALLINN – LAAHEMA NATIONAL PARK – TALLINN Breakfast at the hotel. Day to run away from the city and enjoy pure Estonian nature. Laahema National Park – the oldest national park in Estonia & former Soviet Union. It is located about 60 km from Tallinn and covers 480 square km of typical North Estonia sea coast landscape. During the trip you will visit Palmse and Sagadi manors, the fishing village Altja  and captains’ village Kāsmu – all surounded by stony and sandy seashores, picturesque bogs, pine and cliff forests, rivers and erratic rocks left over from the last Ice Age. Return to Tallinn for overnight.

 

DAY 10 TALLINN Breakfast at the hotel. Private transfer to Tallinn‘s airport. Departure.
